What is PEMF?

PEMF stands for pulsed electromagnetic field. A PEMF device runs electric current through coils of wire to make a magnetic field that switches on and off in pulses.

The iMRS Prime

Our PEMF device is the iMRS Prime, made by Swiss Bionic Solutions. It's a full-body mat, about 173 cm long, with copper coils inside, run by a small control unit that sets the session length and the intensity. Our mat also gives gentle far-infrared warmth, which you can turn up or down. Even at its highest setting, the field on the mat is about as strong as the Earth's own magnetic field.

The system

Our set is the iMRS Prime Hybrid. Its parts:

  • Full-body mat (Exagon FIR): about 173 cm long with three pairs of copper coils and gentle far-infrared warmth you can turn up or down.
  • Pad (Exagon Pad): a cushion-sized applicator, about 59 cm, with one pair of coils, for use on one area.
  • Spot (Exagon Spot): two small coils on a strap, for a small area.
  • Control unit: a touchscreen that sets the session length (from a few minutes up to an hour) and the intensity; we always start low.

Split Mode lets two applicators run at the same time, each with its own settings — so, for example, two people can have a session together, each at their own comfort level.

What a session feels like

Nothing moves, shakes or vibrates. You lie still, fully clothed, on the mat. There may be little to feel at all; the device's instructions note that some people feel a slight tingling or a sense of warmth. We start at a low intensity and set it for your comfort, and Cole stays with you throughout. Adults 18+.

Licence and listed uses

PEMF sessions on the iMRS Prime, a Health Canada-licensed Class II medical device (licence 114372). Its Canadian instructions for use list it to promote bone healing, to reduce the sensation of pain, for improved wound healing, and for improved peripheral microcirculation. Not a substitute for medical care; keep seeing your doctor.

Before a session

PEMF isn't for everyone. The iMRS Prime's instructions list contraindications including pregnancy, epilepsy and electronic implants, so we ask about these before any session.
